about making space

for adolescents and young people

are you struggling with your mood, lots of worries, having trouble with friends or family, feeling unsure about who you are or how to get what you want from life?

adolescence is a tough time for teens and young people, their parents and loved ones, particularly if there are multiple challenges such as mental health concerns, relationship problems and difficulties at or in attending school

art therapy is a type of psychotherapy that can help a young person explore who they want to be and how they want to navigate their challenges

I am an art therapist and accredited mental health social worker specialising in counselling and art therapy for young people with complex mental health concerns. I work with young people and their families to help navigate the complexities and challenges of adolescence and mental health. I will make the space for you to feel accepted and respected, safe, comfortable, accompanied and purposeful in your journey towards greater understanding of yourself and control of your concerns.

for parents and adults

adults hold many roles, responsibilities and worries in their hearts, hands and minds

using art therapy or talking therapy, this is a place to make time for your own worries, for your hopes and dreams, to explore ways of managing stress, to share and make meaning of your own stories, and to strengthen your capacity to support the ones you love

(she/her)

  • My particular areas of training, experience and interest include art psychotherapy, complex trauma therapy, mindfulness-based and relaxation therapies, dialectical-behavioural therapy (DBT) and internal family systems (IFS) therapy.

  • Registered Art Therapist and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AThR, BSocWk)

Thanks for visiting my website. I am in private practice where I see children, adolescents and adults, and provide professional supervision to mental health workers. My main intention in therapy is that the child, young person, adult or parent feels accepted as they are, and can discover through art or verbal therapy their capacity for managing life’s challenges.

I am a Masters level qualified and ANZACATA registered Art Therapist and ANZACATA approved professional supervisor. I am also an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and have been a social worker for over 30 years.

In 2016, I joined Children’s Health Queensland’s Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) to provide evidence-based therapies to young people with complex mental health concerns. For 3 years I was the Senior Art Therapist at an intensive inpatient and day-program service for adolescents. I have also worked in school settings to provide art therapy to primary school children.

Through this work, I have become experienced in art therapy, counselling and psychotherapy for children, adolescents and their parents. I have an understanding of how young people and adults can use art to connect with who they are and their capacity for change towards the life they want.

  • I have expertise in being part of a team who manage a young person’s mental health diagnosis and care, so I can work alongside other health professionals involved in a person’s mental health care.

art therapy for adolescents

Using art-materials and art-making in therapy, a young person can find ways to manage anxiety, improve their mood, shake off unpleasant feelings, grow their identity and make meaning of their world. Almost anyone can do art therapy, you don’t need any art skills at all. If you are a young artist though, I will work with you to honour this part of who you are and ensure that our therapeutic work supports your artist identity.
